Proposed Changes in PVCS Version Control Hot

by Amit Kumar Mitra on August 26, 2015

It will great if you add these features to your next version release of PVCS Version Control - 1. Promotion Group should be defaulted to DEV while we check-in Version 1.0 file. 2. Description of Version 1.0 File should be visible instead of Initial Revision. 3. Check-In Date should be same as Last Modified Date for a particular file. 4. Enter Keys should work while submitting GUI form. Thank You, Amit Mitra

    Hello Amit Mitra,

We added the PVCS Version Manager category and moved your proposal in there, as it wasn't noticed where it was before. Hopefully that will change now.

I recommend splitting your request into individual ones, so people can vote for those items they want. In light of that I do want to provide some feedback, so you can tweak your requests as needed:

    > 1. Promotion Group should be defaulted to DEV while we check-in Version 1.0 file.

If you specify a Default Promotion Group in your Workspace Settings, this group will be applied to revision 1.0 when you check-in a file.

    2. Description of Version 1.0 File should be visible instead of Initial Revision.

The description of revision 1.0 is "Initial revision." unless this was changed. Perhaps you are taking about the workfile description? This is a different attribute that describes the purpose of file at large, not just revision 1.0, and is what you specify when you add a file.

Bringing up Properties on a file shows the file description. If you want this to be shown elsewhere, kindly indicate how.

    3. Check-In Date should be same as Last Modified Date for a particular file.

These two dates are stored separately for a reason, as they denote unrelated actions. It is unlikely that this would be changed.

Perhaps there are alternate solutions for what you are trying to accomplish. Can you please provide a use case?

    > 4. Enter Keys should work while submitting GUI form.

The enter key does work in any field that takes multi-line input, like a workfile description or a checkin description. Are you looking for Enter to work as an OK button? If so, how should this work in dialogs that take multi-line input?

    Kind regards,

    - Richard.
